February 10, 2008      Disaster Relief and Closed Military Bases

Remember hurricane Katrina?  Hundreds of thousands of people had their homes destroyed and were displaced to different areas of the country.  Some of them are still living in government supplied trailers.  All politics aside, we have a simple, workable, and practical solution to the problem of what to do with disaster victims.

Move them to closed military bases.  The bases offer a secure setting, all the facilities needed to house, feed, and educate large numbers of people, and they all exist and don't require new construction.  The closed facilities are located all over the country and vacant space could no doubt be found within a reasonable distance from whatever disaster occurs.  The closed facilities are packed with classrooms, places to sleep, and mess halls to feed vast numbers of people.

What we are doing here is getting this idea on the record.  Shortly after hurricane Katrina, we pitched this idea to the White House and CNN.  The only time we ever heard this idea mentioned was the next day, a reporter on CNN asked the question why the White House was not reacting to this.  We will approach one presidential candidate a week to see who will propose this idea and claim it as their own.
