Hollywood East
is a group of 4 - three of them share a significant amount of DNA - they're
brothers. They have been playing together as a band for over 30
years. Here's their latest CD cover.

Their latest CD has eight songs. Seven are their own. They
play a crisp and clear classic rock-n-roll style that makes you want to listen and appreciate
each cut. They sound to the prematurely deafening Managing Editor a lot
like the Steve Miller Band or the J. Geils Band. They have some Joe Walsh
in there on the guitar, too. They are excellent musicians and the songs
they write show superlative talent. We're going out to see them
December 3 at Sonoma's in Oakland Mills in Columbia. If they are as
good live as they are on CD, we're all in for a great show. The last cut
on this CD is called "The End of the World." It's a touch over
14 minutes long and if you like your music classic and rock you'll listen to
that cut about 6 or 8 times in a row like we did. As a historical note, these guys
have actually opened for Root Boy Slim in days gone by so you know they have
credentials. Here's
the FM1081 review of their May show at Sonoma's... "After
listening to their latest CD countless times, we finally got to see Hollywood
East live at Sonoma's in Columbia on Saturday night. You always wonder if
a band will be as good live as they are on a well engineered recording.
They were beyond solid. They played a crisp two hour set, covered some
Beatles, Who, and Santana during about a quarter of it and played their own
songs during the rest of the time. They're a four man band. John,
Gary, and Mike Gubisch along with Guy Ferguson. Guy plays bass, the
Gubisch brothers do the vocals with John on the organ, Gary on the drums, and
Mike doing things with a Stratocaster that a human being should just not be able
to do. They have the kind of polish that only comes from playing and
practicing together for years. They write some real and serious music -
not the top 40 junk we hear on the radio - this is interesting music to listen
to. They change times and keys and actually make it work. This is
quality rock-n-roll - probably the best indicator of this we saw in the audience
when they were playing. A lot of these people knew music... beyond
the expected foot tapping, hands moving, head nodding activity, people were
actually studying the band as they played. We'll keep you advised on when
and where they will be playing. These guys put on a show - they have music
that has a flavor all it's own and they execute an absolutely flawless
performance." Bulletin
Bulletin Bulletin The
Gubisch group has turned out a new generation of music makers. They call
themselves Half Empty. We have not heard them play yet, but they have
already played the 9:30 Club so they must be serious about something.
